Tips for IB students to study successfully online

In Semester 1 of 2020, the University of Queensland (UQ) campus, which is usually vibrant and noisy, was notably quieter than usual. That does not, however, imply that life was easy for our almost 15,000 international students studying at home.

International students at UQ have shown that obtaining a university degree while training online can be satisfying. They've shared their best tips and tricks for keeping motivated, meeting your goals, and learning successfully from home.

Create a proper daily routine

Both of the UQ students stressed the importance of sticking to a schedule in order to remain on track and offer the day structure.

This will help you stay inspired, disciplined, and self-assured. Future employers place a high emphasis on self-management skills.

Get up at a standard time per day and plan in time for your courses and learning events, as well as daily breaks, fitness, and leisure activities.

Malaysian Kranthi is seeking a Bachelor in Communication degree. She believes that, considering the fact that she had never learned online before, she was able to adapt with the aid of a regular routine..

Manage your time

And if you are not leaving your home to follow your research, life as a student is always quite hectic. You must also perform various activities, attend courses, request assignments, and, of course, manage your personal time.

On our own, few of us are masters of time control. To assist you, use your schedule, regular to-do lists, and reminder tools.

Advik from Singapore uses a to-do list on his tablet to help him handle his time while studying for a Bachelor of Arts (dual degree in Economics and International Relations).

You don't have to use software if you don't want to. For big monthly activities like assessments, Kranthasi uses a written calendar. She has discovered that writing it down and posting it anywhere she can read it makes her stay responsible.

Minimise distractions

There's no denying that being at home can be overwhelming, particularly when snacks, streaming channels, and social media are all within reach. Turning off triggers such as phone and social media alerts, as well as finding a calm and relaxed space to work, can help you retain concentration.

While learning from home can be very frustrating, Rico from Hong Kong claims that keeping his phone away helps.

Engage in healthy habits

Get ample rest, exercise, good sleep, and social time with friends and family to keep your mind and body safe. Healthy routines help reset and recharge you, allowing you to perform at your best at work and in school.

Kelly from China believes that having enough sleep, eating healthily, taking breaks, and exercising are some of the most critical aspects of a successful research experience.
